A switch is a member of the sensor family that converts a change in the intensity of light between the transmitter and receiver into a change in current for detection purposes. There are many different types of switches, different types of switches are used in different places, but some places can only use membrane switches, which are ubiquitous in our lives. The product we are introducing today is the membrane switch. The manufacturing process and other basic information about membrane switches will be highlighted in this article.

Sealing

Membrane switches are manufactured using unique technologies that make them waterproof, oil-proof, contamination-proof and anti-static.

Long service life

Because the materials used in membrane switches have good insulation, heat resistance, folding resistance and high resilience; and the printing of patterns are printed on the reverse side so that the silkscreen pattern is not damaged; therefore, the service life of membrane switches can generally reach more than three years.

In addition to the basic features mentioned above, the general weight of membrane switches ranges from a few grams to dozens of grams, making them very easy to carry and disassemble. It is also worth noting that membrane switches are a widely used product in applications such as medical instruments, computer control, digital machine tools, electronic scales, post and telecommunications and photocopiers.

Material thickness of membrane switches

The main demarcation line for the material thickness of membrane switches is 0.25mm. There is a clear difference between those above 0.25mm and those below. First of all, the thickness of the plastic substrate is 0.25mm and below, called membrane, which is mainly used as the panel layer of the membrane switch, and the choice of thickness should depend on the size of the panel and the keys. On the contrary, if the material is too thin, the touch will feel poor and the rebound will not be obvious. In addition, the thickness above 0.25mm is called plate, which is not suitable for three-dimensional key forming, and can be used as an indicative signage panel for the operation area without keys, or as a liner for membrane switches to improve their hardness.

Baking

The screen printed circuit is placed in an oven at a temperature of 115 degrees Celsius. The circuit is then baked and simply assembled to test for short circuits, broken circuits, excessive resistance, etc. Problems are corrected in time. Next, after the baked circuit is tested for single line resistance, the tail is taped to the carbon paste by a suitable transparent adhesive from the outlet hole to overlap with the carbon paste by 1mm.

Assembling the wiring

The scribed lower circuit is first applied to the mezzanine which has been prepared with the holes. When applying it, the silver paste dot is placed in the middle of the mezzanine hole and then the circuit is applied. After a series of processes, the inspected panel is attached to the upper circuit. Note that the 4 corner lines are aligned when pasting, and any air bubbles on the surface adhesive should be scraped flat and pasted to the transparent window to see if the window is stuck.

Inspection

First, visually inspect the keypad to see if there are any deviations in appearance or bad silkscreen printing. Then test the keys one by one according to the line principle. Look for short circuits, shorts, excessive resistance and other defects. Avoid affecting the use of membrane switches.
